When the doors opened to Old Patrolman Guard Services, better known as OLDPGS, in 2018, its founder, Hayson Tasher, wasn’t just starting another security company. He was taking a stand.
In an industry increasingly clouded by unlicensed operators and corner-cutting practices, Tasher’s vision was straightforward yet radical: build a company rooted in professionalism, legality, and accountability. “Too many were doing it the wrong way,” he recalls. “It wasn’t just unsafe, it was unlawful.”
From that conviction, OLDPGS was born.
A Vision Forged in the Field
Tasher’s path to entrepreneurship wasn’t paved by investors or business plans—it was shaped by experience. Before OLDPGS came to life, he held multiple licenses: security guard, bail bondsman, and bounty hunter. Those credentials gave him an intimate understanding of how safety and legality intertwine, and how easily both can be compromised.
“I was looking at my licenses one day,” he says with a laugh. “And it hit me, why not build something that unites all of this expertise under one roof?” The name Old Patrolman nods to an era when integrity and discipline were the foundation of the badge, a fitting inspiration for a company aiming to restore those very values.
From LA Nightlife to Essential Service
OLDPGS made its debut in Los Angeles’s dynamic entertainment scene, providing security for the Summertramp rave in Downtown LA. Soon after, the team was protecting some of the city’s most recognizable venues – The Fonda Theatre, The Roxy, and El Rey Theatre.
But as the company found its stride, the world changed overnight. COVID-19 forced venues to shutter and events to vanish. Many security operations dissolved. OLDPGS, however, stood firm. Recognized as essential workers, Tasher’s team remained on duty, adapting to new health and safety demands while protecting properties and businesses navigating uncertainty.
“The pandemic tested everyone’s resilience,” Tasher says. “But it also reminded people that real security, licensed, lawful, and professional, isn’t optional. It’s essential.”
Building an Ethical Alternative
In a market saturated with unlicensed guards and under-the-table operations, OLDPGS quickly became known as the reliable exception. Tasher’s frustration with illegal practices turned into his mission. “Unlicensed security isn’t just a shortcut, it’s a crime,” he says. “It’s extortion in disguise.”
OLDPGS now operates as a security management and consultation firm, connecting businesses with fully licensed personnel across the country. The company provides not just guards but strategic solutions, compliance advice, operational oversight, and risk management. Its growing network of affiliated security companies across the U.S. has positioned it as a trusted consultant for those who want to do things by the book.
What sets OLDPGS apart is Tasher’s continued presence in the field. Despite his leadership role, he still works on-site as both manager and guard. “You can’t lead effectively from behind a desk,” he says. “Being on the ground keeps me sharp and keeps our team accountable.”
Expanding Horizons
As OLDPGS gains traction, Tasher’s ambitions are evolving beyond consultation. Plans are underway to launch retail stores offering tactical boots, gear, batons, and firearms, products carrying the “Old Patrolman” brand. Complementing these stores will be training centers for aspiring security professionals, designed to uphold the standards OLDPGS was founded upon.
His goal is simple: create a complete ecosystem for safety professionals that merges experience, education, and ethics under one identity.
A Philosophy Built on Opportunity
Throughout his journey, one word has remained central to Tasher’s story – opportunity. It’s both his guiding principle and his message to others. “Opportunity is key,” he says. “It’s not just about being ready for it, it’s about respecting it.”
For Hayson Tasher, OLDPGS is more than a business. It’s a statement of purpose. It’s proof that in an age of shortcuts and compromises, doing things the right way still matters.
With nationwide growth on the horizon and a brand synonymous with professionalism, OLDPGS isn’t just guarding property, it’s guarding the integrity of an entire industry.
